Fans don’t have to spend the first season worrying whether Nat Geo’s Genius TV show will cancelled or renewed for season two. The scripted anthology drama was picked up for a second season about a week ahead of the series’ premiere, and it feels like there’s a lot riding on it. Although known for nonfictional programming, National Geographic Channel is spreading its wings with partially and fully scripted TV shows like Mars and The Long Road Home, as well as three new projects in development. Will their faith in Genius be rewarded in the ratings? Stay tuned.
Each season of Genius tells the “untold” stories about the most intelligent and inventive innovators in the world. Season one stars Johnny Flynn as Albert Einstein in his younger years and Geoffrey Rush as the mature physicist. The large Nat Geo cast also includes Nicholas Rowe, Samantha Colley, Jon Fletcher, Richard Topol, Alicia von Rittberg, Emily Watson, Shannon Tarbet, Seth Gabel, Ralph Brown, Klára Issová, Corrado Invernizzi, Rod Hallet, Christian Rubeck, and Michael McElhatton.
Genius, season one, explores how Einstein became a worldwide icon and developed the theory of relativity. It also delves into his passionate, complicated, and sometimes explosive private life. The first installment takes place amidst the global upheaval of World Wars I and II. As anti-Semitism crests in Europe, and atomic weapons threaten the survival of mankind, the principled Einstein’s life is at risk, even as he struggles as a husband and a father. **Status update, below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

Cable ratings are typically released within a day or so of the show’s airing, except for in the case of weekends and holidays. They are sometimes harder to come by so there may be occasional delays or gaps.
What do you think? Do you like the Genius TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed beyond a second season?
