Great News: Renewed; NBC Orders Season Two of New Comedy

Great News TV show on NBC: (canceled or renewed?)

Good news for fans of Great News. Today, NBC announced they’ve renewed the TV show for a second season, Variety reports.

From Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the comedy follows Katie Wendelson (Briga Heelan), an ambitious cable news producer whose mother ends up interning at her workplace. The cast also includes Andrea Martin, John Michael Higgins, Nicole Richie, Adam Campbell, Horatio Sanz, and Tracey Wigfield

The renewal comes as a bit of a surprise. Great News just debuted in late April, but the ratings were middling from the start. Only a few episodes in, the show is averaging a .85 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 3.554 million viewers. While those numbers save the series from being NBC‘s lowest-rated new comedy (that title goes to Powerless), they do make it one of the lowest-rated new shows of the 2016-2017 season.

Nevertheless, NBC has decided to give Great News another chance. The network has ordered 13 episodes for season two of the series.

What do you think? Have you seen Great News? Will you watch season two?
