Grey’s Anatomy will premiere its 13th season on ABC next month, and the focus for the upcoming season has now been revealed by a member of the cast. Kelly McCreary, the actress behind Maggie on the series, spoke with TV Guide about the season ahead, and it appears that the series is going back to basics.

The upcoming season will focus on the four remaining original cast members, Meredith, Alex, Bailey and Richard Webber. McCreary said the following:

“After such a long period of time and so many new people coming in and out, they remain the foundational characters of the show. We’re gonna be spending some more time with them to check in with where they are. The way that we spent time with Meredith last season, exploring the major shift in her life, the loss of Derek, I think we can expect to see those doctors being explored where they are in this moment, all these years later, the changes that they’ve gone through.”

It was revealed recently that the season 13 premiere will focus heavily on the situation between Alex and Jo. The season 12 finale had an explosive ending featuring the couple.
