Koenig was the son of Walter Koenig, Chekov on the original Star Trek, and appeared in many TV and film projects over the years. In addition to appearing on shows like Adam-12, 21 Jump Street, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Andrew Koenig earned a cult following for playing the Joker in the Batman: Deep End short film. He was also a film editor, director, and a human rights activist.
Still, he’ll likely be best remembered for his recurring role as a teenager, playing Mike Seaver’s dimwitted buddy, Richard ‘Boner’ Stabone on the Growing Pains sitcom. Several of his castmates from the 1980s sitcom have released statements about their fellow actor and friend.
Alan Thicke: “Andrew’s light shone brightly on the Growing Pains set. His skill and humor and friendship were important elements in our extended family. May his own family now find comfort in their memories of the good times with this very special young man.” (via TheInsider)
Kirk Cameron: “It is with great sorrow to hear about the final outcome of the search for my old friend Andrew. I hope everyone will be sensitive to the Koenigs and give the family some private time to reflect and to grieve the loss of their beloved son. At a time like this, we all are reminded of the briefness of life and the importance of being ready for our eternal destination. My prayers will continue to be with Andrew’s family.”

While friends, family and authorities were still searching for Koenig, Joanna Kerns and Jeremy Miller both publicly expressed their hope that he would be found safe and sound. Neither have commented since his death was confirmed.
A private California memorial is planned.
