Happy Endings follows a group of six twenty-something friends whose relationship is put to the test when one leaves another at the altar. Despite their fears, they all still remain close. The ensemble comedy stars Adam Pally, Casey Wilson, Damon Wayans Jr., Elisha Cuthbert, Eliza Coupe, and Zachary Knighton.
The series debuted late last season to a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.3 million viewers. ABC used the series mostly as filler and ended up airing almost all of the episodes after 10pm, a timeslot typically reserved for dramas. The show apparently had some fans inside the network though because, despite averaging a 1.7 in the demo with 4.0 million viewers, Happy Endings was renewed for a second season.
This fall, ABC gave Happy Endings the post-Modern Family timeslot and it’s been doing much better. Last night’s episode registered a 3.4 in the demo with 7.6 million viewers. Season two has been averaging a 3.2 in the demo with 7.33 million. It’s currently the sixth highest-rated scripted series on the network and, if it maintains this level of ratings, it will surely climb past some of ABC’s other sitcoms.
ABC has rewarded this success by handing down a full season order so the cast and crew will be producing at least 22 installments. ABC has also ordered full seasons of Once Upon a Time and Last Man Standing.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Happy Endings? Are you glad to hear that it’s gotten a full season? Do you think it’ll be renewed for a third season?
