HBO’s Newsroom Renewed for Season Two; True Blood Gets Season Six

HBO true blood newsroom renewalHBO has announced they have renewed True Blood for a sixth season and The Newsroom for a second season. They didn’t specify how many episodes have been ordered or when they’ll begin airing.

True Blood returned to HBO on June 10th to 5.2 million viewers. That was down when compared to the season season four opener but not by much. Thus far, the fifth season of True Blood has averaged a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.76 million total viewers.

Created by Aaron Sorkin, The Newsroom debuted eight days ago on the cable channel. It drew an underwhelming 2.14 million viewers, about half as much as True Blood. However, the TV series boasts a well-respected cast and creator and that’s the kind of image that’s really important to HBO when trying to attract new subscribers.
