Is Herbie the Love Bug coming back to the small screen? TVLine reports Disney XD is developing a new TV series based on the classic Volkswagen Beetle character.
First introduced in the 1968 Disney movie The Love Bug, Herbie is an anthropomorphic Volkswagen Beetle who has a mind of his own. The franchise has launched several films, a 1982 TV show, and a comic book.
According to TVLine, Travis Braun is set to write the new Herbie series and will executive produce the Disney XD show with Tom Burkhard and Matt Dearborn. The lead role will be a young girl or boy who is “‘part scientist, part entrepreneur, part daredevil’ and realizes, when her/his parents go missing, that they’ve secretly been working on a government project: a talking car named Herbie.”
