TV show description:
A scripted comedy, the Hit the Road TV show centers on Ken (Alexander) and Meg Swallow, and their children Ria (Sharp), Alex (Marini), Casey (Dixon-Poirier), and Jermaine (Johnson). This dysfunctional family of wannabes fancies itself rock stars in need of a big break.

As the results of their choices attest, the Swallows are not all that adept at discerning what’s best for either their family or their band. Still, they are resolute in their pursuit of their “rightful place” in music history.

Certain his talent is undeniable, the only thing bigger than Ken’s aspirations might be the schemes he employs to achieve them. Even though he has never been received as an exceptional artist, nothing can sway him from going after everything he is sure he and the family deserve — no matter what.

A former wild child, Meg is a devoted wife and mother, who understands when her kids make bad choices. Now that she’s on the road with Ken, this accomplished musician and composer is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants out of this new chapter in her life.

Ken and Meg’s teenaged daughter, Ria, has many attributes. In addition to her gifts as a sexy singer, songwriter, and guitarist, this sassy songstress has a sharp tongue and a surly attitude. Ria is ready to flee the nest and is more than willing to leave her family in the dust to attain her goals.

Meanwhile, son Alex is easy going, but some of his disposition is thanks to living “better” through chemistry. Sweet and seemingly simple-minded, Alex makes no secret of his penchant for drugs.

Although daughter Casey has some musical chops of her own, she lacks a performer’s drive. While she’s a pretty ethical kid, she can be tempted to to bend the rules. Intelligent and well-spoken, Casey has never met a cause she didn’t espouse. She’s nearly as sweet and respectable as the family pretends she is.

Finally, there is Jermaine — the Swallows’ adopted son. Unlike the rest of the family, he has a solid moral core and serves as such for the rest of them. Jermaine is such a skilled guitarist, that while he’s playing, no one would ever imagine the hard life he’s lived, nor the stress-induced afflictions he suffers — from allergies and asthma to rashes, nose bleeds, and intestinal trouble.

Together, the Swallows abandon comfort, privacy, and self-respect, as they criss-cross the country in a tiny tour bus, on their quest for fame and fortune. Will they ever achieve their dreams? Stay tuned.
