House of Cards may end on Netflix after its fifth season, but, if so, that might not be the end of the series entirely. Michael Dobbs teased about the possibility of a spin-off in a recent interview. A spin-off would not feature Frank Underwood, who is played by Kevin Spacey.
Express UK shared his comments about the popularity of the series and the potential for a spin-off. He said the following:
“That is a very interesting question and one that we are putting our minds to actively because every show comes to a natural end. Look what they’ve done with Breaking Bad, look what they’ve done with 24. So is there life in the long term? Well, it’s a hell of a brand. It’s been going now for 30 years: it was a success as a book, it was a success as a BBC television series, it is a huge success as a US series. There are plenty of people from other parts of the world who want to make their version of House of Cards, which we’re talking with. We’ll see what happens with those. It is a global brand, so the question arises: what do we do with a global brand?”
He made it clear that there would be a lot more to figure out before a spin-off could happen. Would you watch a new House of Cards? Tell us what you think.
