House of Lies: Renewed for Season Two by Showtime

House of Lies season twoWell, like their characters on House of Lies, it seems that Don Cheadle and company know how to get things done. The Showtime series has been renewed for a second season.

House of Lies is based on a tell-all book from author Martin Kihn. In the story, Marty Kaan (Cheadle) is a big-money earner at Galweather & Stearn and leads a young team of hotshot power players. Known as “The Pod,” the team includes Jeannie (Kristen Bell), Clyde (Ben Schwartz), and Doug (Josh Lawson). They go first class all the way, spend wild nights on the town servicing their clients’ needs, and stick it to “the man” by beating the corporate suckers at their own game.

The half-hour series debuted on Sunday, January 8th to a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.03 million total viewers. That wasn’t nearly as strong as the return of Shameless that preceded it but Showtime crowed that House of Lies brought in 1.6 million viewers when later airings were factored in. That was better than Homeland’s premiere. If you include the online and on-demand numbers, the viewer total reaches 2.76 million.

The second installment of House of Lies fell but the numbers rose for weeks three and four. Sunday’s installment brought a new high with a 0.6 rating in the demo and nearly matched the premiere with 1.02 million total viewers.

Showtime says that they’re thrilled with the growth and the creative work of the cast and crew so House of Lies has been renewed for a second season. There’s no word on how many installments have been ordered or when they’ll air but the show will go back into production later this year in Los Angeles.

There are currently eight episodes remaining for the first season. It looks like the season finale of House of Lies will air, appropriately enough, on April 1st.

Showtime also announced that they are renewing Shameless for a third season and Californication for season six.

What do you think? Do you think House of Lies is worth watching? Should it have been renewed or cancelled instead?
