TV show description:
A TV show adaptation of the Chris Kraus novel, I Love Dick takes place in Marfa, a west Texas arts hub. Chris (Hahn) is a New York-based independent filmmaker. Her newest project is supposed to debut at the Venice International Film Festival, but is pulled at the last minute, because she failed to obtain rights to some of the music in it.
Before learning about the fate of her film, Chris sublets their small NYC apartment, then helps her husband, Sylvère (Dunne) move to Marfa, where he will spend a year in residency at the Institute, which is run by acclaimed artist Dick Jarrett (Bacon).
Chris and Sylvère’s marriage has seen better times. Although still technically a couple, they are emotionally estranged. It’s upon their arrival in Marfa that Chris learns her Venice invite has been rescinded. Now she’s stuck in this dusty little town, with ample time to ponder that her career is now in ashes.
At an Institute meet and greet, Dick catches her eye. The enigmatic cowboy-artist seems drawn to her too, at least until he realizes Chris is married.
Still, Dick goes out to dinner with the couple, and proceeds to insult Chris, professionally. When he sneers at the idea that female artists can be as accomplished as male artists, she finds herself hooked.
Her new obsession inspires Chris to write some brutally honest letters to Dick that she plans on keeping to herself. After Sylvère convinces her to read the letters to him, the couple’s recently icy marriage bed thaws. What other consequences will result from her writing? Stay tuned.
Series Finale:
