TruTV’s hidden camera reality series, Impractical Jokers, has been renewed for a fifth season, the network announced today.
The series, which began in 2011, follows a group of four high school friends who prank each other in public and film the prank using hidden cameras. The show is the second longest-running program on TruTV, and the network has ordered 26 episodes for the upcoming fifth season.
From TruTV’s press release:
“The 26 episode order comes in the wake of the series’ biggest episode ever, a live highwire walk at South Street Seaport to celebrate their 100th episode. The special episode, which aired live on Sept. 3, drew 3.7 million total viewers in Live +3 delivery, making it truTV’s most watched telecast in 19 months. In addition to Top 5 rankings in its timeslot across all the key demos, the show was a huge success on social media, trending nationwide.
‘Even after 100 episodes and the success of the Live Punishment Special, it’s clear that Joe, Sal, Murr, and Q have many more surprises up their sleeves,’ said Chris Linn, president and head of programming for truTV. ‘We are thrilled to move forward with another season of hilarious challenges and unexpected punishments.'”
