In a recent Rolling Stones interview, writer/actor Glenn Howerton was asked if the 10th season will be the end.
He said, “Yes. There’s a certain point where you wear out your welcome and we don’t want to do that. We want to leave them wanting more. We spend a lot of time trying to find new lines to cross. We’re not trying to offend people or gross them out, but we’re looking to surprise them. I think we’re proud of what we’ve done so far, so it’s time to stop. I’m sure there are already a few people who are like ‘Jesus Christ is that show still on? Go away.'”
When asked if the cast would attend the Emmys this year, he replied, “I don’t know, maybe in the 10th season, just because it’s the last season and for the sake of the show, maybe we’ll try to butter some people up.”
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was renewed for a 10th season back in late March when it was announced that the series would be moving to FXX. According to the Stones article, the cast and crew just finished filming season nine.

UPDATE: Howerton seems to be backtracking on his statements and may not believe “it’s time to stop” after all. He tweeted, “It’s a great article in Rolling Stone. I just think he misunderstood when I said we’re only signed thru 10. We still might sign on for more.”
