Jane the Virgin: Fourth Season Ordered by The CW

Jane the Virgin TV show on The CW: season 4 renewalThe crazy story of Jane Villanueva and her family will continue. The CW has renewed Jane the Virgin for a fourth season. Season four will air as part of the 2017-18 season, likely kicking off this fall.

On Jane the Virgin, a driven 23-year-old woman named Jane (Gina Rodriguez) ends up becoming pregnant thanks to being artificially inseminated by mistake. Once she has the baby, things seem to get even more complicated. She’s caught between the attraction for her detective boyfriend, Michael (Brett Dier), and her boss, Rafael (Justin Baldoni), who’s also her baby’s daddy. Now that she’s married one of them, is the drama over? The rest of the cast includes Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Ivonne Coll, Jaime Camil, and Anthony Mendez (voice over).

Thanks in part to having Supergirl as a lead-in, season three of Jane the Virgin is up by nearly 10% in the ratings. It’s currently averaging a 0.40 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.05 million viewers. It’s the sixth highest-rated series on The CW right now (below the superhero series and Supernatural).

Today, CW President Mark Pedowitz said, “When you have great critical work and a critically acclaimed and award-nominated show like this, it deserves to be picked up… It has nothing to do with numbers. It has everything to do with [how] Crazy Ex, Jane the Virgin and the DC franchises have helped alter the perception of what The CW has become.”

The CW also renewed six other TV shows today — Arrow (season six), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (season three), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (season three), The Flash (season four), Supergirl (season three), and Supernatural (season 13).

We already know that Reign and The Vampire Diaries are ending this season. No Tomorrow and Frequency are expected to be cancelled and The Originals’ future will likely be decided once the ratings come in for the upcoming fourth season, starting in March.

The next original episode of season three airs on January 23rd.

What do you think? Do you like the Jane the Virgin TV show? Are you glad that it’s been renewed for a fourth season or, should it have been cancelled instead?
