There is a silver lining to yesterday’s news that ITV has cancelled freshman drama, Jekyll and Hyde. The show’s creator, Charlie Higson, announced on Twitter that the sets have been shipped to Calais, to be used in building refugee shelters.

Higson’s Twitter is the new go-to breaking news provider, where the Jekyll and Hyde TV series is concerned. He broke the cancellation there, himself, yesterday. The cast of this cancelled show includes: Tom Bateman, Donald Sumpter, Stephanie Hyam and Tom Rhys Harries.

Here is Higson’s announcement of the set donation:

When Mashable contacted ITV for confirmation, a network spokesperson was not aware of it, but said the network would contact the production team, to confirm.

Mashable reminds us of the plight of the refugees:

Thousands of people live in slum conditions in the patched-together tents and huts in the camps that make up the so-called “Jungle.” Most are displaced from a number of countries throughout the Middle East, including Syria, Libya and Afghanistan.

That these sets are on their way is good news for the refugees, who are fighting ever-lowering temperatures.

Should the entertainment take on more initiatives, like the one apparently taken by the Jekeyll and Hyde crew? Sound off, in the comments.
