The L Words is officially coming back. Deadline reports Showtime is developing a sequel to the landmark TV series.
The drama premiered in 2004 and centered on a group of lesbians living in Los Angeles. The show ran for six seasons before ending in 2009. The cast included Jennifer Beals, Erin Daniels, Leisha Hailey, Laurel Holloman, Marlee Matlin, Eric Lively, Eric Mabius, and Pam Grier.
A few weeks ago, co-creator Ilene Chaiken said she and the cast were ready to revive The L Word. Now, that dream is becoming a reality. So far, original cast members Jennifer Beals, Kate Moennig, and Leisha Hailey will return as executive producers on the new Showtime series.
From GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis:
The past few years have seen lesbian and queer women characters in television killed off in shockingly high numbers. It is refreshing and exciting to see GLAAD Media Award-winning The L Word returning to television where it can tell nuanced, entertaining, and beautiful stories of an largely underrepresented community.”
What do you think? Have you seen The L Word? Would you watch the sequel series?
