TV show description:
This series joins the Law & Order franchise of legal/police dramas, replacing the original series set in New York with this one set in Los Angeles. As is the standard for all the series in the franchise, stories revolve around headlines in recent news.

A former Marine, Detective Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich), has all the intuitions of a natural cop. As a rookie, he recognized the failures of the police in the Rodney King case and the riots that came soon after. He began to take his career more seriously because of it and began to rely on himself, instead of his colleagues. He once had an affair with his partner, and now she’s his wife and they have two kids together. They’re no longer partners But it does bring some complications for him on the job.

Winters’ partner, Detective Thomas “TJ” Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll), is a younger Hollywood native, leading him to have a very cynical view of the entertainment industry. He believes being a cop is the most fun someone could ever have… legally, as you get to go toe-to-toe with the criminals and go places others never even get to see. Jaruszalski hasn’t seen the things his partner has seen, leading him to still have an idealistic view of police work.

Lieutenant Arleen Gonzales (Rachel Ticotin) is the Commanding Officer of the LAPD Robbery Homicide Divison. A passionate advocate for her detectives, she’s very professional on the job and keeps her private life to herself.

District Attorney Jerry Hardin (Peter Coyote) oversees the work of Deputy District Attorneys Ricardo Morales (Alfred Molina) and Jonah “Joe” Dekker (Terrence Howard). Morales has a deep sense of justice and gets his work ethic from his father who was a groundskeeper at a country club, and is an immigrant, along with his wife. Morales keeps his nose in politics and is very media savvy. Dekker is a newer Deputy District Attorney and splits the workload with Morales.

Morales’ second chair, Deputy District Attorney Evelyn Price (Regina Hall), is an African-American from the upper middle class L.A. area. Her father owned a furniture store that burned down during the Rodney King riots, leading to a skepticism of how the LAPD treats minorities. Deputy District Attorney Lauren Stanton (Megan Boone) hails from San Marino and primarily works with Dekker.
