Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Season 17 Renewal for NBC Crime Drama

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit TV show season 17 renewalIt looks like the Law & Order franchise is staying alive — for at least one more year. NBC has renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a 17th season on the network.

Debuting in 1999, Law & Order: SVU follows an elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes in New York City. In the current 16th season, the cast includes Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Danny Pino, and Raul Esparza.

While the show is one of the peacock network’s longest-running scripted series, it’s still doing pretty well in the ratings. It’s NBC’s third-highest rated drama in the coveted 18-49 demographic with a 1.7 rating and 7.22 million viewers. Compared to last season, SVU is down by 7% in the demo but is up by 14% in viewers.

As of last night, 356 episodes of SVU have aired on NBC — and there are many more to come.

What do you think? Are you glad that Law & Order: SVU has been renewed? How long should this series run?
