Is Elliot Stable returning to Law & Order: SVU? TVLine reports Chris Meloni may return for the NBC TV show’s upcoming 21st season.
Meloni played Detective Elliot Stabler on the crime drama from seasons one through 12. The series currently stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Philip Winchester.
Although Meloni hasn’t announced return to Law & Order: SVU, showrunner Warren Leight says he’s hopeful the former star will reprise his role in the future:
Look: I assume that if some year, some decade, couple decades from now, we get to the last SVU, [Meloni] would have to come back before we do the last episode or before the show signs off.
It would be tricky, because it’s now been eight years since the characters were seen together. So how’d they get in touch? We haven’t seen it. Where has he been? How do you explain that? There are storytelling challenges to it.”
Season 21 of Law & Order: SVU premieres on NBC on September 26th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. ‘
