Law & Order True Crime just wrapped its first season last night, but will there be a second? Recently, showrunner Rene Balcer spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the future of the NBC TV show.

The first season of the anthology crime drama chronicles the events surrounding the trial of Erik and Lyle Menendez, two brothers convicted of murdering their parents in 1989. The cast includes Edie Falco, Gus Halper, Heather Graham, Josh Charles, Miles Gaston Villanueva, Anthony Edwards, Julianne Nicholson, and Constance Marie.

In the interview, Balcer revealed he wants to explore the Oklahoma City bombing for season two of Law & Order True Crime if NBC decides to renew the series:

“Just before the [Television Critics Association summer press tour], I had mentioned to him [executive producer Dick Wolf] the Tim McVeigh case, and his eyes lit up. Because Dick and I were together, we were in the same office when the bomb went off in Oklahoma.

I think that would be an incredible case, especially in light of today’s politics. There’s pretty fantastic echoes in the present circumstances of the Oklahoma bombing and what was behind it. That would be a case that would interest me.”

As of now, there’s no word if NBC will renew Law & Order True Crime. Ratings weren’t particularly high for the freshman series. Over the course of eight episodes, the drama averaged a 1.06 ratings in the 18-49 demo and only 4.552 million viewers.

What do you think? Did you watch Law & Order True Crime? Would you watch a second season?
