Seann William Scott saved Lethal Weapon. Recently, Fox TV Group chief Gary Newman discussed Scott’s addition to the TV show’s upcoming third season, Deadline reports.
As reported earlier, Scott will be replacing Clayne Crawford on the action drama after Crawford was fired for on-set behavioral issues. The cast also includes Damon Wayans, Keesha Sharp, Kevin Rahm, Jordana Brewster, Johnathan Fernandez, Dante Brown, Chandler Kinney, and Michelle Mitchenor.
During this summer’s Television Critics Association press conference, Newman revealed FOX was ready to cancel Lethal Weapon before Scott was cast:
If we could not feel confident to bring that show back with a great cast in a way that the audience would accept it, we would have simply not brought the show back. Until they came up with Seann, we were planning a schedule without Lethal Weapon.“
And what can fans expect from season three? Cast member Damon Wayans says the new season will have a “lighter” tone:
We’re only the first (episode) in but it is definitely a lot lighter in tone, and we are having fun, on and off set. It’s just a lot looser, nobody’s overthinking, just doing and having fun doing.”
On Lethal Weapon, Scott will be playing Wesley Cole, a father and war veteran. Maggie Lawson is also joining the cast as Wesley’s ex-girlfriend, Natalie Flynn, Deadline reports.
