Lost In Space: Watch Will Robinson, Dr. Smith and The Robot Get Lost Again!

When the Lost In Space movie came out in 1998, it bore little resemblance to the original sci-fi series. There were small cameos by some of the original cast but it bombed at the box office. One of the positive things to come out of the studio’s promotion was a TV special that paid homage to the original series.

Hosted by John Larroquette, Lost In Space Forever presents a retrospective of the classic TV show and includes some little-seen footage from the show’s history. June Lockart, Mark Goddard, Marta Kristen, Angela Cartwright, Bill Mumy, and Jonathan Harris are all interviewed and, though Guy Williams had passed away in 1989, his original screen test is included.

The special would be a typical lightweight retrospective except for the fact that the producers went out of their way to make it extra special for the diehard fans.

Throughout the program, Larroquette banters with the iconic Robot, complete with Dick Tufeld’s voice and Bob May inside. They’re standing on an impressive and no doubt expensive remake of the Jupiter II spaceship. But the best is saved for last.

At the end of the program, Mumy and Harris appear as their Lost in Space selves, in facsimiles of their original costumes. For the brief scene, they’re completely in character and interact with each other and the Robot as if they’d never stopped filming the show. It’s a real treat for the fans. Thanks to one on YouTube, you can take a look now…

If you enjoyed that, you might want to pick up the Lost in Space Forever DVD. It includes some interesting extras including footage of the construction of the Jupiter II recreation, May getting into his costume, Mumy and Harris on the set, and more.
