The “romantic anthology” series, that revolves around “three loosely connected, modern stories of love, sex, marriage and dating,” was featured heavily at last May’s upfront presentation to advertisers and was supposed to air Thursdays at 10pm.
During the summer, Love Bites hit a number of roadblocks, including the pregnancy of star Becki Newton. Jordana Spiro’s role had to reduced because of a previous commitment to TBS’ (now-cancelled) My Boys. Love Bites’ creator, Cindy Chupack, also decided to step down as showrunner. NBC ended up filling the timeslot with The Apprentice and pushed Love Bites to mid-season. The network subsequently cut the episode order from 13 to nine installments.
Unless Love Bites is a big hit, it seems unlikely that NBC will order a second season of the show. Newton has a pilot in second position with CBS. Spiro has a comedy pilot for ABC called Lost and Found. Meanwhile, Greg Grunberg has a pilot with A&E called Big Mike but he was only committed to the first season of Love Bites anyway.
What do you think? Are you interested in checking out Love Bites? Do you think it has a chance at season two or is it already as good as cancelled?
