Lucifer: FOX EPs Talk About the Supersized Third Season

What’s in store for Lucifer? Recently, executive producers Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich discussed the future of the FOX TV series, Deadline reports.

The drama follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) as he abandons his throne in Hell for a life in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Lauren German, D. B. Woodside, Tricia Helfer, Rachael Harris, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Aimee Garcia, and Scarlett Estevez.

Shortly after FOX renewed the series for a third season, it was announced the network shortened Lucifer‘s season two episode count from 22 to 18 episodes. At WonderCon this past weekend, Henderson clarified that the four episodes cut from season two will air as stand-alone episodes next season:

What happened was, we initially broke an 18-episode season, and towards the end of working on that season, we were told that we had 22 episodes, which is awesome, but a little bit of a trick.”

Modrovich later added:

We were worried that we were going to have to sort of pad our arc that we had so carefully, lovingly constructed, but they actually said instead, let’s do four stand-alone episodes that can go anywhere. At first we went, ‘What? We’re a serialized show—that’s bananas.’ But we’ve had so much fun thinking about shows that we love, like X-Files, and some of the stand-alone episodes were our favorites.”

And what’s in store for these stand-alone episodes? Henderson teased:

They’re all different, and they’re all super weird, and we were sort of given permission to go a little crazy. I think they didn’t expect us to go as crazy as we did. … We’ve got an episode that’s much more sort of a romp; we’ve got an episode that’s a Twilight Zone-y kind of thing—like dark, and at times it almost feels like a play.”

What do you think? Do you watch Lucifer? Are you excited for the supersized season three?
