Get ready for the return of Malcolm in the Middle. Disney+ has ordered a revival of the classic sitcom with Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek returning to reprise their roles. Series creator Linwood Boomer is also on board.
The original FOX sitcom aired for six seasons before it ended in 2006. The story follows child prodigy Malcolm (Muniz) and his dysfunctional working-class family. In addition to Cranston and Kaczmarek (playing parents Hal and Lois), the comedy also stars Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan as Malcolm’s brothers. A fifth son, introduced in the fourth season, was played by James and Lukas Rodriguez.
A four-episode revival will air on Disney+. Word is that the story will revolve around Lois and Hal planning a 40th wedding anniversary celebration and demanding that Malcolm and his daughter attend. It’s unknown if other previous cast members will be taking part in the revival.
Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said the following about the revival:
“Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability.
Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.
With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”
