What’s This TV Show About?

A dark Netflix sci-fi comedy, Maniac stars Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Justin Theroux, Sonoya Mizuno, Sejal Shah, Aaralyn Anderson, Alexandra Curran, Julia Garner, Billy Magnussen, and Christian DeMarais. The series centers on Annie Landsberg (Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Hill), who along with ten other strangers, come together for a three-day drug trial of a mysterious new medication. Its inventor, Dr. James K. Mantleray (Theroux), promises it can fix anything wrong with a person’s mind, from mental illness to heartache, with no side-effects.
 

 

Telly’s Take

Unless they decide to publicize viewership, it is difficult to predict whether Netflix will cancel or renew Maniac for season two. It seems like a mini-series so a second season seems unlikely but, you never know.  For now, I’ll keep an eye on the trades and press releases and update this page with breaking developments.
