Marco Polo: Season Three; Would You Have Watched?

Marco Polo TV show on Netflix: canceled, no season 3

The journey has ended. If you haven’t heard the news, Netflix has cancelled Marco Polo after only two seasons of 10 episodes each. All of the second season episodes (including the defacto series finale) were released on July 1, 2016. A Christmas special aired last year.

The historical drama, which was initially developed for Starz, follows the early years of the famous 13th-century explorer as he travels through the Mongol Empire. The cast includes Lorenzo Richelmy, Rick Yune, Benedict Wong, Claudia Kim, Remy Hii, Olivia Cheng, Mahesh Jadu, Tom Wu, Gabriel Byrne, and Michelle Yeoh.

Netflix doesn’t release “ratings” for their programming but, because the show has been cancelled, one can guess that they didn’t feel like ordering a third season made good financial sense. That doesn’t mean, however, that the series didn’t have its fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, season two has a 94% approval rating.

What do you think? Should Netflix have ordered season three of their Marco Polo TV series? Would you have watched? Was two seasons enough?
