NBC Kills New Bill Cosby TV Series

billcosby05Last year, NBC hoped that Sean Hayes and Michael J. Fox, two stars of hit NBC sitcoms from yesteryear, could once again bring big ratings to the network. It didn’t work and both Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show were cancelled.

Undaunted, NBC execs made a deal earlier this year for a new multi-camera sitcom starring veteran Bill Cosby and executive produced by The Cosby Show’s Tom Werner. The untitled comedy, expected to debut Fall 2015, would have seen Cosby playing the patriarch of a multi-generational family who shares his wit and wisdom.

As a result of the multiple rape accusations against Cosby in recent weeks, the network has now cancelled the project. In light of the news, it seems likely that the new show would have been a tough sell to audiences and advertisers alike.

Yesterday, Netflix announced that they were scrapping plans to release a new Cosby comedy special the day after Thanksgiving. Titled Bill Cosby 77, the special celebrates the comic’s 77th birthday.

What do you think? Do you agree with NBC’s decision? Would you have still watched a new Cosby show, in light of the disturbing allegations?
