CBS’ Sunday night programming — 60 Minutes, Undercover Boss, The Amazing Race, and CSI: Miami — was preceded by afternoon football. The shows got a great lead-in but people who don’t watch football once again had to put up with late start times. In addition to Sunday football, CBS had 16 of the top 30 shows last week.
Three of ABC’s Sunday night shows — Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, and Brothers & Sisters — were the network’s shows that landed in the top 30. This wasn’t a big surprise though since most ABC shows were in repeats. Only FOX’s animated programming made the list — The Simpsons, American Dad, and Family Guy (with an hour episode).
This is a list of the the top 30 TV shows, as ranked by their ratings in the 18-49 demographic. This is the group that advertisers will pay the most to reach and, therefore, this is how the network measures a show’s success. If a show gets lots of viewers in that age range, it has a safe future. If not, it’ll be cancelled.
