Has New Girl gotten old? The FOX TV series airs its season six finale tonight, but should there be a season seven? Should it be renewed or cancelled?
The sitcom stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone as a group of friends living in Los Angeles.
Last month, star Jake Johnson said he’s not expecting a seventh season and given the show’s ratings, he could be right. So far, season six is averaging a .94 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 2.061 million viewers. For comparison, season five earned an average rating of 1.12 in the 18-49 demo and 2.52 million viewers.
Additionally, executive producers Dave Finkel and Brett Baer told TV Guide the season six finale could double as a series finale if FOX does not renew the show:
We really wanted to make sure that we delivered an ending that could work in both directions. If it was the series finale, that it answered a lot of questions, and then if it was just the season finale, there would be space to grow.”
The season six finale of New Girl premieres tonight, April 4th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
