It looks like the good times are almost over for this motley crew. Today, FOX confirmed they’ve renewed New Girl for a seventh and final season.
The ensemble comedy revolves around free-spirited educator Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and her friends; grumpy Nick (Jake Johnson), overly confident Schmidt (Max Greenfield), competitive Winston (Lamorne Morris), and model Cece (Hannah Simone).
The past few seasons have been tough on New Girl in terms of ratings. And season six dropped even lower, bringing in an average rating of a 0.93 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 2.06 million viewers. Overall, it was one of FOX‘s least-watched series for the 2016-2017 season.
The renewal is a bit of a surprise and even star Jake Johnson didn’t expect the show to be renewed. Earlier this year, he told The Daily Beast that after season six, he thinks “it’s done.” It looks like Johnson was almost right.
While FOX has confirmed the final season renewal, the network has not disclosed how many episodes have been ordered.
What do you think? Are you a fan of New Girl? Are you sad that the show’s almost over?
