The Night Shift is trying something new for season four. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an upcoming episode of the NBC series will be written and directed by military veterans.
The medical drama revolves around the quirky but devoted staff members of San Antonio Memorial Hospital who work from dusk ’til dawn. The cast includes Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Robert Bailey Jr., Brendan Fehr, JR Lemon, Scott Wolf, and Tanaya Beatty.
During a recent press panel, executive producer Jeff Judah said season four will focus heavily on military medicine. Also, one episode of the new season will be written and directed by veterans and feature veterans in all of the guest roles:
It’s exactly going to be incorporated. We want to bring the military medicine in to the show. … It’s fascinating how our veterans still don’t get the respect that they deserve. You read every day about the mistreatment. … We felt we could realty lean in to this and really tell these stories.”
Season four of The Night Shift premieres on NBC on June 22nd.
What do you think? Do you watch The Night Shift? Are you glad the show is incorporating more military issues?
