Although season one of the Pitch TV show on FOX premiered to low ratings which only grew lower, the network has not yet either cancelled or renewed Pitch for season two. As previously reported, network execs Gary Newman and David Madden indicated the network would consider the show for renewal.

Dan Fogelman, who is enjoying great success with his other new series — NBC’s This Is Us — says he is optimistic about Pitch getting a second season on FOX. A sports drama series, Pitch follows gifted young pitcher, Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), who becomes the first female Major League Baseball player. Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Ali Larter, Mark Consuelo, Dan Lauria, Mo McRae, Meagan Holder, and Tim Jo also star.

Dan Fogelman ‘Optimistic’ for Season Two of Pitch on FOX

Here is more, from Deadline:

Following the session for his NBC series This Is Us today, Pitch co-creator Dan Fogelman said he is “optimistic” about a second season. “I hope I’m not naive. It’s very important to me and I made it clear to all the people at Fox who produce the show,” said Fogelman.

“The metrics and ratings are the metrics and the ratings, and I believe if given time to grow, it will grow,” added Fogelman, who co-created the show with Rick Singer.

“I believe in the show so strongly, but the point of entry is difficult, either the baseball or the concept of the show. But once you get past that…” continued Fogelman.

The Pitch TV series premiere earned a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and drew 4.227 million viewers. However, by the end of its ten-episode first season, the show’s average numbers were a 0.83 and 3.032 million, respectively. Check out all the season one ratings for Pitch on FOX.
