Project Runway: Season 17 Returns to Bravo after Lifetime Cancellation

Project Runway TV show on Bravo: season 17 (canceled or renewed?)

The Project Runway TV show is coming back home to Bravo. Today, Andy Cohen announced that Bravo was picking up the 17th season of the cancelled fashion design competition reality TV series.

Originating as a Bravo TV show in 2004, Project Runway aired on the NBCUniversal cable network for its first five seasons, before departing for Lifetime. Earlier this year, A&E Networks — Lifetime‘s parent company — parted company with The Weinstein Company (TWC), over the Harvey Weinstein scandal. As part of that decision, Project Runway, which had been renewed through its 18th season, was effectively cancelled. Now that Lantern Entertainment has acquired TWC assets, Project Runway is returning to the place where it all began.

Hosted by Heidi Klum, with Tim Gunn serving as the contestants’ mentor, Project Runway is a long-running competition series, which pits aspiring fashion designers against each other as they vie for a large cash prize and the opportunity to launch their own fashion line. “PROJECT RUNWAY” RETURNS TO ITS ORIGINAL HOME ON BRAVO MEDIA FOR SEASON 17

New York, NY – May 14, 2018 – Bravo Media announced today as part of the NBCUniversal Upfront at Radio City Music Hall that the iconic fashion competition series, “Project Runway, has made its way back to its original home. Bravo launched “Project Runway” in 2004 where it continued airing through 2008, and now returns for Season 17. The show joins Bravo’s diverse slate of programming and its expansion of seven nights a week of original series in primetime.

“We are beyond excited to reboot ‘Project Runway’ at the network where it all began. Leaning into the creative process in an entertaining way has always been part of Bravo’s DNA, and ‘Project Runway’ perfectly captures that,” said Frances Berwick, President Lifestyle Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “This franchise will be an important cornerstone to complement Bravo’s original premium scripted and unscripted slate, and we expect it to drive the same level of fan-dom and passion as we experienced last time it was on Bravo.”

“Project Runway” returns to Bravo through an agreement between Bravo Media LLC and Lantern Entertainment LLC, whose bid to acquire the assets of The Weinstein Company (which includes “Project Runway”), was approved by the Delaware bankruptcy court on May 8. The deal is subject to Lantern closing that acquisition.

“As we anticipate formally completing the acquisition process, the opportunity to return ‘Project Runway’ to its original home at Bravo and foster a long-term and productive partnership with NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment is an exciting first step for Lantern Entertainment,” said Co-Presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic. “We share Bravo’s enthusiasm to reinvigorate the series and are incredibly grateful for everyone who has had a hand in making ‘Project Runway’ the flagship franchise that it is today.”

In addition, Bravo and Lantern have agreed to develop other unscripted projects for Bravo and other networks in the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment portfolio.
