Days of Our Lives star Greg Vaughan is leaving Salem, USA for the Big Easy. Vaughan tweeted he is joining the cast of the Queen Sugar TV series on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. On February 11, NBC renewed Days of Our Lives through the 2016-2017 television season.
We contacted OWN for more information on Vaughan’s Queen Sugar role, including his connection to the Bordelon family, but did not hear back before publication. The cast of Queen Sugar includes: Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Kofi Siriboe, Tina Lifford, Dondré Whitfield, Nicholas L. Ashe, and Timon Kyle Durrett. Glynn Turman guest stars.
In Queen Sugar, Wesley stars as New Orleans journalist and activist Nova Bordelon. Her life, and that of her brother, Ralph Angel (Siriboe) and their family, undergoes significant change when their sister, Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner), returns to Louisiana from Los Angeles, to help with the family’s sugarcane farm. Turman guest stars as Ernest Bordelon, the proud family patriarch.
Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay, Queen Sugar is an adaptation of Natalie Baszile’s acclaimed novel of the same name. Filmmaker DuVernay developed the property for television, wrote the pilot, and will direct multiple episodes in the first season of Queen Sugar.
Here is Vaughan’s tweet announcing his role in the series. The @AVAETC account, mentioned in the tweet, is Duvernay’s.

On Days of Our Lives, Vaughan has filled the role of Eric Brady, Sami Brady’s (Alison Sweeney) twin brother, since 2012. He is the first actor to take on the character, since Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles exited, back in 2000. Vaughan previously played Lucky Spencer on General Hospital, in a role originated by Nashville‘s Jonathan Jackson.
Days shoots five to six months in advance, so fans have known Vaughan was leaving the series since late November. His last appearance on the soap is expected to air in mid-April. The Eric Brady character killed his best friend, Dr. Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian) in a drunk-driving accident. It is expected that he will be convicted and sent to prison, as Vaughan’s last storyline.
Vaughan’s fans have been upset since the news broke that Eric Brady was being written off the long-running daytime drama. Perhaps they will follow Vaughan to primetime, and OWN’s Queen Sugar. When we receive more information on this new role, we will let you know.
