Queen Sugar has a new leader. Deadline reports Monica Macer has been named as the new showrunner for season two of the OWN series.
From Ava DuVernay, the Louisiana-set drama chronicles the lives and loves of the estranged Bordelon siblings following a major family tragedy. The cast includes Bianca Lawson, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Dondré Whitfield, Ethan Hutchison, Glynn Turman, and Greg Vaughan.
Macer, who has previously worked on VH1’s The Breaks and Nashville, will replace season one showrunner DuVernay for the upcoming second season.
From DuVernay:
I am delighted that Monica is joining the Queen Sugar family, adding her unique voice and creative vision to the Bordelon siblings’ journey for season two. With our successful series launch well underway, we are fortunate to be able to include Monica as we prepare for all of the great things to come in the next season.”
