In its sophomore season on The CW, the Riverdale TV show saw a significant increase in the ratings, and its demo ranking even jumped up one slot to fifth place. Now that it’s back for a third season, can this Archie Comics inspired TV series gain even more viewers, or has the novelty worn off? Will Riverdale be cancelled or renewed for season four? A CW mystery drama, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Marisol Nichols, Madelaine Petsch, Ashleigh Murray, Mädchen Amick, Mark Consuelos, Casey Cott, Skeet Ulrich, and Luke Perry. The third season kicks off with a dark mystery the parents have been keeping a secret, since they were in high school. Meanwhile, Archie (Apa) has been framed for a crime he did not commit, and the new prosecutor, Ms. Wright (Penelope Ann Miller), is gunning for him with gusto.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The second season of Riverdale on The CW averaged a 0.49 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and a total audience of 1.371 million viewers.
