Rosewood: Cancel or Keep the New FOX Series?

Rosewood TV show on FOX: cancel or season 2?FOX’s Wednesday night drama Rosewood had a very positive debut in the ratings when it debuted back in September. But, how is the TV series doing now? Cancel or keep it for season two?

Rosewood revolves around Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr. (Morris Chestnut), a calm, collected and incredibly charismatic, pathologist. He’s recruited by Miami’s homicide department and partnered with tough Detective Annalise Villa (Jaina Lee Ortiz). She’s annoyed by his constant optimism — until she discovers the reason. The rest of the cast includes Gabrielle Dennis, Anna Konkle, Domenick Lombardozzi, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, and Lorraine Toussaint.

Thanks in part to being paired with the very successful Empire TV show, the Rosewood series debuted to a 2.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.54 million viewers. It was a very positive start, especially when you look at the ratings for most of the other shows on the FOX network.

Unfortunately, the numbers dropped more than 17% in week two and the ratings fell again in weeks three and four. The fourth episode of Rosewood drew a 1.42 in the demo with 5.03 million. Episode five recovered a bit and generated a 1.56 in the demo with 5.27 million viewers.

FOX gave the new series a full season order in mid-October, bringing the season tally to 22 installments. If you look at the downward trend of the ratings alone, that move seemed a bit surprising but, again, much of the network’s other programming is struggling right now. None of FOX’s other new shows have caught on and are doing much worse in the ratings.

A second season renewal will likely depend on how well this series performs for the rest of the season — and what FOX’s new crop of pilots look like in the spring.

For now, it seems clear that FOX is committed to sticking with Rosewood through the rest of this season.

But, what do you think? Will you stick with the Rosewood series? Do you really like this show or is it just “good enough” for now? Cancel or keep it?
