Summer 2017 is many months away but the CBS execs are already making their programming plans. The network has announced that the primetime schedule will include 13 episodes of a new drama called Salvation. Produced by Alex Kurtzman, the series will revolve an MIT grad’s belief that an asteroid is on a collision course with Earth. Hopefully the ratings will be better than NBC‘s You, Me and the Apocalypse which lasted one season.

Here are the details:

CBS ORDERS “SALVATION,” A NEW EVENT SERIES FOR BROADCAST IN SUMMER 2017
The Dramatic Thriller Will be Produced by Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and CBS Television Studios

CBS has given a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of SALVATION, a new one-hour event series from Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and CBS Television Studios. The serialized drama will be broadcast during summer 2017.

A suspense thriller, SALVATION centers on an MIT grad student and a tech superstar who bring a low-level Pentagon official a staggering discovery – that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth.

“SALVATION is the type of fast-paced, dramatic ride that viewers look for in a summer event series,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. “We’re excited to launch another high concept, highly promotable show with great auspices that adds to our roster of year-round, original scripted programming.”

SALVATION is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout. Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, who wrote the script (based on the story by Matt Wheeler), Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin and Peter Lenkov will serve as executive producers. The series will be distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and worldwide by CBS Studios International.

The new drama will join the third season of ZOO, based on the #1 bestseller by James Patterson, as well as the next edition of the reality hit BIG BROTHER, on CBS’s 2017 summer lineup.

What do you think? Do you like the sound of the Salvation TV series? Will you be tuning in to CBS next summer?
