I scream. You scream. We all scream for more Scream. While MTV has not yet announced if its Scream TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a third season, there is at least one more episode on the way. During last night’s Scream after-show, Scream After Dark!, MTV announced a Scream Halloween special episode of the slasher-horror mystery drama. Watch a promo, below.

The Scream season two finale episode, “When a Stranger Calls,” just aired last night. If you haven’t watched, please be warned there are spoilers for the second season finale, after the jump. The Scream TV series cast includes Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Amadeus Serafini, and Carlson Young.

WARNING: Spoilers for Scream season two.

In Scream S2:E12, “When a Stranger Calls,” Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini) was revealed as the second season killer as well as Piper Shaw’s (Amelia Rose Blaire) collaborator. Emma Duvall (Willa Fitzgerald) somehow managed not to shoot him, allowing police to make the arrest.

There was also that mysterious phone call at the end of the season finale, which seems to have come from Brandon James.

In the Scream Halloween special promo below, Kieran arrives at the prison and is locked in a holding cell. After the guards depart, he looks up to see someone in a Brandon James mask, above the ceiling grate.

Watch.

Whether this Halloween special will be a swan song, i.e. Scream‘s series finale, or if it will prove to be the battle cry kicking off a third screeching season of Scream on MTV, has yet to be seen.

We don’t yet have last night’s ratings, but the first 11 episodes of Scream‘s second season averaged a 0.19 in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic, and drew an average total audience of 0.380 million viewers (i.e. 380,000).

Those numbers are a big drop-off from the first season ratings, which averaged 0.34 in the demo and garnered an average total audience of 0.75 million viewers.

Of the eight scripted MTV shows we have been tracking, the ratings land Scream in sixth place, whether sorted by the demo numbers or total audience size. The seventh placed Faking It and eighth placed Happyland have both already been cancelled.

The thing is, the two shows above Scream, Finding Carter and Eye Candy have also been cancelled. What is more — MTV’s third place show, Awkward, ended.

The network’s scripted slate is wearing rather thin. Suffice it to say a Scream season three renewal is neither guaranteed nor impossible.
