Scream Queens: Red Devil Killer Teases Season Two

Scream Queens TV show on FOX: season one finale (canceled or renewed?)

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the season one finale of the Scream Queens TV show, on FOX.

Lea Michele’s Hester has been revealed as the last Red Devil in the first season finale of Scream Queens. Since Hester gets away with it, Michele is already excited about a second season of this horror comedy series. To date, FOX has neither cancelled nor renewed Scream Queens, but Michele sounds optimistic about the show’s future.

In an interview with Variety, Michele says that while Scream Queens first season was an homage to the film, Heathers, season two is inspired by another horror classic. The actress did not reveal which one, but added, “I’ve had a great time playing Hester, and hopefully she’ll be back to play next year.”

Variety asked if the cast will play the same characters in a second season of Scream Queens.

[Lea Michele:] Yes, we’re playing the same characters in a new location. We would all go somewhere, and it’s explained why we’re going where we’re going. Hopefully Emma Roberts will be back for sure, too. (As for everyone else), it depends on how many gift baskets to Ryan Murphy Productions people can send in time. I think the cast is so incredible. I know Ryan is loyal to everyone, so hopefully everyone will be able to come back at least for something.

Later, in the interview, Michele talked about how great it was to play opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. Nodding toward season two, she said of their characters: “We’re in it together now, she and I. I know a lot about her. She knows a lot about me. That will be a lot of fun to play with.”

In another post-finale interview, IGN asked Michele about future Scream Queen storylines.

IGN: What do you imagine comes after this? Do you think Hester will actually rest easy?

Michele: I do! I really do, and I think that if there is another killer that’s on the loose… I think that she could be really helpful for them, if there’s another killer coming around to just say like, “Guys, this is what they’re doing, and these are the signs,” or something like that.

IGN: So what you’re saying is, we need you in Season 2, no question.

Michele: I mean, I’m saying it! I think that everyone really loves Hester, and I think that it would be important to have her back.

Later in the article, IGN again broached a second season of Scream Queens:

IGN: Do you think [the Red Devil is] something that will roll over if there is a Season 2, or do you think it’ll be fresh?

Michele: I know that there’s going to be a new killer. But something has to start happening to get them to move to a new location, which I hear we’re going to. So I don’t think we’re going to see the Red Devil anymore.

IGN: But same characters?

Michele: Same characters. I think so, but you never know with Ryan. But we did a fan event with Ryan a couple weeks ago in New York, and he mentioned that it would be a new location but I think same characters.

Michele never did say which horror film will serve as the inspiration for Scream Queens in season two. Last month though, Oliver Hudson teased a summer camp setting. Friday the 13th, anyone? Tell us in the comments which horror movie you think Scream Queens will pay homage to, next season.

A second season of Screams Queens is not certain. While Ryan Murphy and his cast have talked a lot about it, FOX has not. The ratings for Scream Queens fell off, quite a bit, after the first two weeks.

Last night’s first season finale of Scream Queens earned a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic, with a total audience of 2.62 million viewers. While this marks an increase of over 10 percent in the demo, Screams Queens was still the lowest rated network series, in the 8:00 pm timeslot. Check out the ratings for Tuesday, December 8.

What did you think of the season one finale? Do you think Screams Queens should be cancelled, or should it be renewed for a second season? If there is a second season, do you think it will be inspired by Friday the 13th, or another summer camp horror film? Tell us.
