Secret Millionaire: ABC Renews Show for Season Two (or Three)

Secret Millionaire renewedIf you’re in need, keep your eyes pealed for people traveling incognito — with large billfolds and a camera crew in tow. ABC has renewed Secret Millionaire for season two. Well actually, it’s season three.

Secret Millionaire is a reality show that follows wealthy individuals who go undercover to meet worthy Americans in need. At the end of each episode, they hand out some of their own money to the unsuspecting citizens. The series had an unsuccessful first season on FOX and was swiftly cancelled during the 2008-09 season.

ABC picked up Secret Millionaire for a short season and ran the episodes in the usual timeslot of their aging Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series. What a difference a couple years can make. It was an immediate success for ABC, premiering to a 3.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.67 million viewers. Subsequent installments came down but the first season still ended up averaging a 2.8 rating and 10.70 million viewers.

It’s one of the network’s most popular reality shows, right behind The Bachelor, and outperformed Home Edition by more than 20% in the all-important demo.

To no surprise, ABC is renewing Secret Millionaire for a third season (its second on ABC). There’s no word on how many installments are being ordered, when it will be back, or if it’ll stay on Sunday nights. The network holds their advertiser upfronts on Tuesday afternoon so we should know more details by then.

What do you think? Are you glad that Secret Millionaire has been renewed? Is it better than other reality series?
