TV show description:
From creator Veena Sud, the Seven Seconds TV show is a crime anthology based on the Russian film, The Major, by writer and director Yuri Bykov.
The first season unfolds in Jersey City, after a white police officer accidentally hits and critically injures Brenton Butler — an African-American teenager. The ensuing cover-up only serves to ignite racially fueled community tensions.
KJ Harper (Ashitey) is a black assistant prosecutor who is assigned to the case. Although she has her own problems, the gravity of this case weighs heavily on her mind. Whoever struck Brenton left the young man in the cold, to suffer and die alone.
Knowing it is important to both the Butler family and the larger community, KJ works closely with Brenton’s mother, Latrice Butler (King). As the case progresses, Latrice comes to understand that there was more going on with her son than either she or her husband, Isaiah (Hornsby), realized. Now, she is completely absorbed by her need to understand the truth of what happened to her child.
Seven Seconds explores the complex, contentious topic of the race relations between law enforcement personnel and the community members they serve. It searches for answers beyond headlines and delves into the impact these incidents have upon everyone involved.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — “A Boy and a Bike”
As the trial edges toward its conclusion, KJ and Fish (Mosley) search for a way to hold the defense accountable, and Brenton’s parents prepare for what’s next. (Courtesy of Netflix)
First aired: February 23, 2018
