Is Sheldon Cooper getting his own series? Deadline reports CBS is considering a spin-off for Jim Parsons’ popular Big Bang Theory character.
Parsons has played the quirky scientist for 10 seasons on the ensemble comedy, which also stars Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Melissa Rauch, and Mayim Bialik. Currently, the core cast is in negotiations for a possible 11th season.
Titled Sheldon, the spin-off series would be “a prequel, described as a Malcolm in the Middle-esque single-camera family comedy centered on the child prodigy Sheldon character at age 12.” Big Bang Theory co-creator Chuck Lorre, showrunner Steve Molaro, and Parsons are expected to executive produce the spin-off sitcom should it go to series next season.
