Sherlock: Season Three Production Begins

Sherlock season threeThe cast of Sherlock returned to work today for the first table read of season three. Shooting will begin next Monday, reports Deadline.

Jeremy Lovering will direct the first installment and Colm McCarthy will helm another. It’s unclear who will direct the third. The first two will be filmed in the next few months and then the third will be filmed after a summer break.

Paul McGuigan, who directed four of the first six episodes, says that he’s not on board this season. He tweeted, “#sherlock has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my working life as a director but now I have a movie to make…so stay tuned x”

Though season three was commissioned at the same time as season two, Sherlock’s been off the air for awhile. The second season finished airing in the UK in January 2012 and in May 2012 in the US on PBS.

The trio of episodes of season three are expected to begin airing next winter.
