TV show description:
A crime drama from creator Les Bohem, the Shut Eye TV show centers on Charlie Haverford (Donovan). After failing to make his mark as a magician in Las Vegas, Charlie ended up as a con artist. Now he lives in the San Fernando Valley, where he manages some storefront fortune-telling parlors and is under the thumb of the Marks family, which controls most of the operations in Los Angeles.

After a client’s angry boyfriend whacks him over the head, Charlie has an unusual experience while trying out a new “psychic.” Now, this lifelong phony actually gets peeks at the future. Along with his wife, Linda (Strickland), Charlie begins the risky business of uncovering the meaning of these visions, as he tries to safeguard his family and his own mental health.

Linda has grown weary of their unremarkable lifestyle and wants to escape the Marks family’s clutches. She yearns for the day that she and Charlie can control their own future. While she’s a woman of ambition, her love for her teenaged son, Nick (Schmid), grounds her.

After his head injury, Charlie goes to see Dr. Nora White (Misner), a neurologist. Unabashedly curious, Dr. White is no slave to orthodoxy. Something about Charlie’s account of his visions convinces her he is the real deal, which restores her once-waning sense of hope.

A 40 year old widowed father of two daughters, Fonso Marks (Sampson) is temperamental, mercurial, and far from harmless. This man of large appetites — be they for power, money, or women — has honed right in on the Haverfords. Fonso desperately wants to keep hold of the reins of his family’s criminal enterprise.

He strains under the control of his overbearing mother, Rita (Rossellini). As ruthless as she is alluring, Rita doesn’t miss a trick. As the family’s matriarch, little pleases her as much as making her weaker targets pay for their failings, but even that she does with her own fierce flair.

Rounding out Charlie and Linda’s unusual little world is Eduardo Magana (Zayas), a second-generation Mexican-American. Despite his successful business, this purported family man is still caught up in street life. These troublesome ties try his growing friendship with Charlie.

Will Charlie heed his visions? Can he and Linda free themselves from the Marks’ reach and make a clean start in a home of their own? Stay tuned.

Series Finale:
Episode #20 — There’s No Place Like Home
Charlie and Linda navigate their troubled marriage as Charlie steps into Paz’s shoes and Linda makes a set of devastating discoveries. Fonso devises a plan to save his family, but it does not go as intended leaving the Haverfords and the Marks in peril.
First aired: December 6, 2017.
