The Son: Season Two; AMC Renews Pierce Brosnan Drama

The Son TV show on AMC: canceled or renewed?

(Van Redin / AMC)

The saga continues. Variety reports AMC has renewed the TV series The Son for a second season.

Based on the novel by Philipp Meyer, the historical drama traces the rise and fall of a wealthy Texas family. The cast includes Pierce Brosnan, Jacob Lofland, Henry Garrett, Shane Graham, Elizabeth Frances, and Nick Stevenson.

The Son premiered in April to pretty mediocre ratings and the numbers have continued to fall over the course of its first season. Currently, season one is averaging a .17 in the 18-49 demo and 1.546 million viewers.

However, while live-plus-same-day ratings are low, The Son is reportedly averaging 2.3 million viewers in delayed viewing each week, making it the number one original cable drama on Saturday nights.

From AMC:

‘The Son’ proudly continues our Westerns tradition at AMC, including ‘Broken Trail,’ ‘Hell on Wheels’ and decades of films from The Duke, Clint and so many more. We are so pleased to add to that list another season of our original, multi-generational drama from Philipp Meyer, Kevin Murphy and a remarkable cast led by the incomparable Pierce Brosnan. It’s our longstanding mission to super-serve Westerns fans on weekends and we look forward to continuing this epic next year. Welcome home, Son.”
