Star Trek may have aired 50 years ago, but it is still loved by many television viewers today. Fans of the original series have seen some of the castmembers pass away in recent years and the death of Leonard Nimoy had a huge impact on Trekkie fandom. Nimoy created other characters and shared more projects on the small screen, but he was always known as Spock to loyal fans.

Trek Today reports that a book written by William Shatner about his friend and co-star is coming out in 2016. A release date of February 2 has just been set for the book titled Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man.

The book includes William Shatner’s observations about the artist loved by many Star Trek fans. Shatner interviewed many others about their experiences with Leonard Nimoy.

Shatner spoke about the book back in August.

“I’m writing a book about Leonard. I had a brother, whose life arc was so much like mine that we understood each other completely. Our age, our birth, the same types of problems in our marriages – our careers arced in the same manner.”

Shatner is the most visible of the remaining cast members of Star Trek. He has embraced social media, and he makes it a point to attend Comic Con each year.

On Sunday night, he made an appearance on AMC series Comic Book Men, and he expressed his amazement over the upcoming anniversary of Star Trek. The original series has spawned several films and spin-off series since its release. In a clip, he said, “It’s phenomenal. In a couple of months it will be the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. 50 years ago I started playing it!”

Will you be picking up William Shatner’s book in February? Are you still a Star Trek fan? Tell us what you think.
