While they’re wanted dead or alive by things that go bump in the night, Sam and Dean Winchester don’t fear the reaper. Likewise, fans shouldn’t worry that Supernatural will be cancelled any time too soon. Speaking at the TCA summer press tour, The CW President Mark Pedowitz said he is “thrilled” with the show’s direction, adding that stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles seem happy to continue, TV Line reports. Supernatural season 12 premieres on its new (old) night, Thursday October 13, 2016 on The CW.
Deadline reports Pedowitz said. “Creatively the show is terrific, and if the ratings hold, it would outlast me in this chair.” The thriller-drama also stars Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard. In the 12th season, Rick Springfield takes the reins of the Lucifer role from Mark Pellegrino, and Samantha Smith returns as mama Mary Winchester. Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer have taken over as showrunners.

Per Deadline, Pedowitz has let it be known that Supernatural is one of his favorite shows and has looked after it accordingly. According to both Deadline and TV Line, a Supernatural spin-off is still on the wish-list as a “priority.”
TV Line says Pedowitz also added, “It just hasn’t happened. I leave it to the studio [Warner Bros. Television]. When they’re ready to do it, we’ll be glad to have it developed.”
Speaking as a longtime fan of Supernatural, this reporter has more than a feeling that the series should end with season 13. Don’t think I’m as cold as ice. It seems like a good spooky number that just feels right.
As someone who drifted away from Supernatural, then came back to it a couple of years ago and binged until caught up, I can see why it has continued so long, but think it would benefit from an end date.
My eldest son just started watching this summer. He is already in the midst of season six. Having watched along with him — delighting in his obvious enjoyment — I told him about this story, as I was writing it. He said, “Oh, come on! It needs an ending.” Carry on, my wayward son.
Of course, when my boy was little, the first time I sang, “This Is the Song that Doesn’t End,” to him, he freaked out like he was on the highway to Hell. I had to make up an ending, to calm him down. A renegade — he is not.
