Survivor: Fall Ratings for the 2011-12 TV Season

Sixteen new castaways and returning players Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth and Benjamin “Coach” Wade are brought to Samoa to compete for a $1 million prize. The 23rd season of Survivor typically airs on Wednesday nights at 8pm on the CBS network.

Here are the TV show’s ratings for the 2011-12 season, the best way to tell if Survivor is going to be cancelled or renewed for season 25 (the show’s already been renewed for the spring cycle). Episode 23-03: Wednesday, 9/28/11
Week three remained consistent in the demographic with a 3.2 rating and 10.71 million viewers. This is quite a bit lower than last fall’s performance but close to last spring’s cycle when it aired opposite American Idol.
Season average: 3.3 demo with 10.64 million.

Episode 23-02: Wednesday, 9/21/11
The second episode of the season fell 6% in the demo to a still-respectable 3.2 rating and 10.46 million viewers. It was second in the timeslot once again, this time easily bested by the premiere of FOX’s The X Factor.
Season average: 3.3 demo with 10.6 million.

Episode 23-01: Wednesday, 9/14/11
For the kick-off of season 23, CBS ran a special 90-minute episode of Survivor, paired with the season finale of Big Brother. The premiere registered a 3.4 in the 18-49 demographic and 10.74 million viewers, down nearly 18% in the demo year-to-year. The show was in second place in its timeslot in both categories, bested by the season finale of NBC’s America’s Got Talent.


Reference point: The 2010-11 fall season averaged a 3.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.17 million viewers.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
